Sustainability and Corporate social responsibility

ENLILI Sustainability and Corporate social responsibility

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are closely linked with the food industry, and achieving such goals depends on many facets of food production. Despite the persistence of obstacles, emerging solutions are enabling effective progress toward SDG targets, which will contribute toward more sustainable, equitable, and healthy practices for food production.
Transforming the world food system to achieve sustainability in all its dimensions is a major challenge. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will require managing major changes to the global food system responsibly, involving hundreds of millions of farmers and their families, global supply chains, thousands of food producing companies, diverse food production systems and local ecologies, food processing and a great diversity of food traditions and cultures.
A sustainable food system is a type of food system that provides healthy food to people and creates sustainable environmental, economic and social systems that surround food. Sustainable food systems start with the development of sustainable agricultural practices, development of more sustainable food distribution systems, creation of sustainable diets and reduction of food waste throughout the system. Sustainable food systems have been argued to be central to many or all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable development in the food industry requires companies to be more innovative with their products and supply chain as a strategy for developing healthier and higher quality food products, and achieving better economic, environmental, and social performance. A clear path to follow when companies decide to develop innovations for sustainability is still lacking, especially with a focus on quality and healthiness. Enlili, in the first one represents a typical business model redesign oriented to sustainability, that is, developing new products and reconfiguring the supply chain processes for entering new market segments, applied mainly in smaller companies. The second one, indeed, implies a supply chain restructuring strategy while going back to traditional agricultural processes, especially applied in companies with standard or certified products. Both approaches target sustainability performances and allow an improvement of food quality and healthiness.

Enlili sustainability Corporate social responsibility (CSR )
